Usage tips

First use:

  1. Dip the chasen in lukewarm water for 2–3 minutes to soften the bristles
  2. Gently shake to remove excess water
  3. Your whisk is ready for its first ceremony!

Perfect whisking technique:

  • Hold the chasen vertically between your thumb, index, and middle finger
  • Quickly draw an "M" or "W" in the bowl (no circles!)
  • Keep your wrist relaxed and use your forearm
  • Whisk for 15–30 seconds until you get a fine, creamy foam
  • Finish with a circular motion to mix everything evenly
  • Gently lift from the center to create a small foam peak

Daily care — Longevity guaranteed:

  • After each use: Rinse right away with lukewarm water (never any soap!)
  • Drying: Gently shake, then place on a chasen stand (kusenaoshi) or stand it upright
  • Important: Never leave to soak, and never put it in the dishwasher
  • Storage: In a dry, well-ventilated place—ideally on its stand

Pro tips:
✓ A well-cared-for chasen lasts 6–12 months with daily use
✓ Loose bristles are normal—remove them gently
✓ Alternate between 2 chasens to extend their lifespan
✓ A good chasen “sings” when whisking—listen to the sound!
✓ The foam should have microscopic bubbles, a sign of a successful emulsion

Replacement signal: When the central bristles stay spread out even after drying, it’s time to thank your chasen for its service and welcome a new one.
