Collection: Black Tea

The black tea is a fully oxidized tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Our black teas come mainly from the prestigious Assam tea gardens in India, a region nestled at the foot of the Himalayas, renowned for producing some of the boldest black teas in the world. This area benefits from a humid tropical climate and rich soil, which give Assam tea its intense coppery color and its distinctive malty aromas.

The culture of Assam black tea takes place at an altitude between 500 and 1,200 meters, in plantations where the tea bushes can grow to more than 15 meters tall. After the manual harvest of the two leaves and the bud, the leaves go through a fully oxidized process: withering, rolling, oxidation, and drying. This transformation brings out the tea’s dark color and the powerful tannins that define black tea, giving it its strength and aromatic depth.

The black tea is full of natural benefits : it contains theine (equivalent to caffeine) that provides a natural energy boost and helps improve concentration. Rich in antioxidants (theaflavins and thearubigins), it helps combat cellular aging. Black tea also supports digestion and may contribute to cardiovascular health. Its flavonoid content makes it a valuable ally for strengthening the body’s natural defenses.

The preparation of black tea requires very hot water at 95–100°C and a 3 to 5-minute steeping time, depending on the intensity you want. Use about 2 to 3 grams of tea per cup (150ml). Black tea handles longer infusions well and gradually reveals its malty notes. For our flavoured blends, follow the steeping times to balance the flavours of the tea with the natural ingredients added.

Black tea stands out thanks to its complete oxidation (unlike green tea, which isn’t oxidized, or white tea, which is only slightly oxidized). This transformation gives it a dark color, bold, robust aromas, and a high theine content. While green tea offers fresh, green notes, black tea develops malt, woody, and sometimes fruity flavors. It’s an excellent base for flavored blends thanks to its full-bodied taste structure.

Black tea contains theine (30 to 50 mg per cup), making it a perfect energizing drink for the morning and afternoon. It’s not recommended to drink it in the evening to help avoid sleep disruptions. Thanks to its moderate theine content compared to coffee, black tea provides a gradual energy boost without the energy spikes and crashes. It can be a great alternative to coffee for longer-lasting energy.

Black tea storage requires a dry, cool environment and protection from light, ideally between 15 and 20°C. Avoid heat sources and moisture, which can affect the essential oils.
